During an off-plan group run at Usery Park on Saturday, despite feeling pretty good, I wondered how this trail run would effect my 18 mile long run on Sunday. I had just about talked myself into moving my long run to Monday, when I decided to add up my miles for the week to see if my log would suffer. Math is sometimes a fun way to pass the time on a long run.
- Tuesday: Downhill at South Mountain with Jake = 7.5 miles
- shaved 30 sec per mile off last week
- Wednesday: Easy run at Desert Mountain Park = 5.5 miles
- Thursday: Speed Day = 6 miles
- 1 mile warm up/1mile striders/4 x800m 200 m rec/1.5 cool down.
- Friday: = 6 miles easy
- Saturday: Pass Mountain Trail at Usery with the Cadence Group= 7.5 miles
The total was 32.5. I soon realized if I completed my Sunday long run of 18 I would be over 50 miles for a week for the first time ever. When I mentioned this to Trevor, one of the leaders of the group, he basically gave me the “Dude, how can you even not think of running tomorrow” look (it could have also been the “Dude, you only ran 50 miles this week” look).
Sunday: woke up to the sound of the cover of the hot tub crashing to the ground at 4:50. As I got dressed I again considered not running because of the potential storm. Checked the forecast and it seemed like everything would clear out by 6:00. I decided to keep my route close to home just in case the storm developed. For once the forecast was accurate and by 6 I was able to venture further from home. Not a lot of sun and a nice breeze. All in all it was a solid run and a nice way to cap off the week. After an ice bath I am actually feeling refreshed and might not even need a nap today.

Congrats on the epic week! Hope the ice bath helps your recovery.

Feeling pretty good. I took a much needed rest day on Monday. I ran 6 miles (tempo) on Tues, 8 miles easy on Wed, and 6 miles with some 800m repeats today. The hardest days are when our low temps are in the 90’s.
